Brick & Skipper

Brick & Skipper by Raymond Helkio acts as the precursor to Tennessee William’s Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.

Why Write Brick & Skipper?
The original script was about the homosexual relationship between Brick and Skipper. Yet in MGM’s film adaptation, starring Paul Newman as Brick, and Elizabeth Taylor as Maggie, all homosexual references were suppressed.

This queer erasure from the film leaves Brick and his wife Maggie with unexplained toxicity between them. So as Brick gaslights Maggie, the audience is also disassociating in an attempt to reconcile Brick’s half-truths with Maggie’s seemingly incredible tolerance for pain.

Brick & Skipper will be available for purchase in Fall 2022.
